Appreciation Journal : 16th - 19th Sep 2019

I was so discouraged by the poor stockmarket pickings these past few weeks that I spent the least time watching the markets since at least 2012.

Today,  I randomly checked up a  Japanese stock that I had bought...to my delight, I realised that it was sitting on what I thought then was a tenuous paper profit (¥985 versus my cost of ¥894.5 ). However, as I was making my usual walk, it dawned on me that I had bought 200 shares and not 100 as I had supposed earlier, meaning I would be left with over ¥ 8,800 in profit after deducting the (hefty) two-way commission.

Later in the afternoon, as I was searching frantically for the approaching ex-date for the dividend(it was 27th Sep), I chanced upon another stock I bought in May, by mistake because I had changed my mind but failed to withdraw the bid in time. To my pleasant surprise, it closed at   ¥822 versus my cost of ¥678 such that, even if I sold my measly 100 shares, I would be left with over ¥ 5,200 in profit after deducting costs.

I will likely choose to sell these two on or after the 27th of September to ensure I pocket the dividends on top of whatever paper profit the markets allow me!

Today, I rejoice also in the 3943th day of rent-free living!
